Guess either option would be OK...but rebuilding your own may be prefered, as no way of knowing what shape the used one would be in.
The DIY air con top ups (ie: Halfords and the like in UK) say they also seal.
I had a leak where most (but not all) of the pressure would drop in a day (not sure where from).
After using top up products a few times it seems to hold now...as has for maybe a year.
Guess it depends on the nature of the leak.........

Its not cheap stuff, but worth a go.
Get one with a pressure guage inline
You'll also need to buy an adaptor set to fit the Toyota inlet...I bought a adaptor set...not sure where from...probably Halfords or another local accesory shop.
Once you have the kit you can look after your own vehicles though...

i purchaced my super custom ltd yr1995, 66000k, from an import dealer, which was in vv good condition. at that time everything worked and it ran, perfectly.

prior to purchacing i had the rac do a thorough inspection.no faults were found.
i had the same dealer look at the aircon.i was told that a meter will be used to locate the leak. the compressor was said to be faulty.he offered to sell me a second hand one, fit and regas, for $1100.i paid them $55 for the diagnosis.
the vibes i got from this place, made feel very unsettled.
i took your advice and went to a very large company that specialises in aircons, only. they refilled the gas, oil, and also,a dye.

the aircon works perfectly ever since, a month has passed since.their explaination was.in winter the aircon needs to be used for short periods, so that the oil can lubricate the seal in the compressor.i paid $155 all up.

it really saved me a lot of time and worry.

thank you kindly
