| Hi, can anyone please clarify the correct garade of oil to use in my 3.0lt 1995 Super Custom? All of the service centres I have used seem to have differing opinions from 5w 40 to 15w 40. 5w 40 seems a bit thin to me for a 15 year old van with just over 100,000 miles on the clock. Also can anyone tell me where to locate the fuel filter?? Thanks heaps, Dave |

| Thanks everyone for your advice Having spoken to loads of people including a very helpfull "Toyota Specialist" see attached link www.grovegaragehove.co.uk It seems 10W 40 semi synthetic is the oil I need he suggested that 5W is just to thin and is really meant for modern engines 2002 onwards. Cheers Dave |

| I saw 5w30 and 10w30 on the rocker cover of my 3L just today. I was very surprised to see that for a diesel engine, I just did an oil change with 15w40. I tried the link about the 10w40 semi synthetic but it didn't work. Can you pass on the jist of the article? |

| you can feel the difference in the engine when you put 5w/30 in instead of 10w40 tried both. think temps maybe more extreme in japan so thats why the thinner oil, can anyone confirm this? |

| As a general rule when choosing an engine oil grade, consider the relative temperature where you live and drive.
For example, if you hang out in the snow, you will get away with a light oil, i.e 5w-30.
If you live in the heat,Africa,Australia for instance, then consider a heavier oil, like 15w-40, or 20-40.
I put this to you guys like so, when youre in the snow, everything is pretty dam cold, including your engine, and oil,and as the first number in the oil grade measuring system indicates the viscosity of the oil when the engine is warm,or running.
The second number is the viscosity of the oil when the engine is stone cold.
Make sense? |

| it says 10w 30 and 5w 30 on the rocker panel of this 3L surrounded by a bunch of Japanese characters (presumably with some meaning). I've had 15w 40 in for the warmer months and it ran good. I'm going to try 5w 30 for the up coming colder months. The coldest (on record) it's ever been here is - 15.5 Celsius. Let's hope we don't break the record this year. |
