not that it matters but all us men have this question in the back their heads.i wonder how fast it goes? ive seen 150klms(on a private road Rolling Eyes )engine is the dreaded 2.4 2lte(supposedly renowned for head cracks).tyres are 215 55 16 .just for the record i think there may have been a little left in her but i had to back off as i was reaching the gates of the stately manor and didnt want to cause a rumpus as there were cucumber sandwiches waiting for one on the lawn. lol!

Never been brave enough to take it over 80mph.....rather keep him singing where it doesn't sound like it's going to drop it's guts affraid . Alot happier cruising at 70-75mph.
Call me a cat , but last time I tried this stunt in an oldish motor, was saying hello to conrod poking out the bottom of the sump (admittedly on a air cooled VW), thing is I should have thought about it before trying this 200 miles from home scratch .

i think 70 - 75(115-125klms)is about right, she will do all day without me worrying although driving at about 50-55(80klms) makes a huge difference in mpg(think its an aerodynamics thing)over 65 i may aswell be doing 80 cos it dont make any difference.it aint the best on juice and im gonna be dragging a caravan soon so god knows what its gonna be like.read a post on an old forum before i bought mine a couple of years ago and it said guy was getting about 19 mpg affraid if he hoofed and about the same driving normally,i laughed Razz and thought i could do better sadly Sad he aint far wrong either

Once had a chance to take mine down old air port runway and hit 120mph, this not long after putting new head on and various other bits, turbo was adjusted for 15 psi at the time, now back at 10 psi, this on 3 liter engine and WVO... and yes have managed to get mine down to about 15 mpg.... Crying or Very sad

Going to have a chat with my ECU mapping blokey. I'm thinking that the reason you guys might be getting such a low mpg return is that the engine noise regulations may be strict in Japan Question The easiest way to quieten down a diesel motor is to richen the fueling (still done today on fly-by-wire/common rail injection systems where the ecu's are mapped to richen the fuel when diesel knock is at it's peak). When a re-map is done, not only is MPG increased, but performance is also added as it doesn't flood the engine with over-fueling, with hardly much diesel engine noise increase.
Leave this with me, ill talk to him on Monday and see if and what can be done.

didnt know you could remap these ive struggled to get anyone to look at it.got a great guy sorting her out at the moment his website is full of good stuff.he is excellent and without him i would have been running round in circles.he is a diesel king king and anyone wanting more power or fault diagnosis should look him up. http://www.dieselbob.co.uk/

Good site, interesting thing is that he does reffer to the following vehicles;

HILUX - SURF 2.4/3.0 EFI,
Upgrade with BOBBOX Denso
Minimum power/torque increase of 20%.

If he's covering the Surf, can't see why the the super custom's are not in this bracket as surely the fueling side of things are similar (all the years of EFI work has taught me so in the past!)

But here's the interesting bit.......... they are quoting a mapable box. That's the bit of kit if ya want to personalise ya bus Cool . Putting on the rolling road will then set the beasties up perfect!

Still have words with Jason "the Mapper" Tomorrow.

briefly spoke to him the other week and he said the thing for my engine would have a wire to the pump and wouldnt touch the ecu.

Mmmmm. The only thing I can think of is that his unit monitors the signals coming from the ecu to the pump and adjusts accordingly. Can not see why this wouldn't help as the technology is no different than a plug-in box or "in series box". He must have had a vehicle in and created a universal map to which he thinks is the best for that motor for the retail market and personalises the vehicle if he fits it (no different to the kit we use to do for Petrol EFI systems on the cars and bikes). Saves messing about with the connections on the ECU or the ECU itself. Did he say how may wires to connect Question

4 or5 i cant remember but i think you get a variable switch to play with that you adjust until smoke/performance is attained.if you read his site it says he doesnt go for boosting because of reliability probs so your not getting a cheap fix of power at the cost of your engine although if you read other forums it says that they safely boost upto about 10-11 with the actuator shim trick(although i wouldnt try this without a boost gauge).

That's logical. mmmmmmm. 5 wires doesn't seem that much, but would be enough to work out throttle position and advance/retard the pump timing so should work in reality. As for the adjustment switch, haven't got a bloody clue!!!!
Will see how Monday goes.

cheers bud my only other concern would be the amount of airflow stopped by the intercooler to the radiator.suppose i could always open up the front with a bit of mesh and have it looking like a wrc rally car lol!

Good evening.........2 things Exclamation
Firstly Jason has said that the mods will have to be done by a remote box (similar to Bob's Box) then mapped using a rolling road ( apparently they don't like to be re-chipped). This goes back to the DIY fit of Bob's box which must have a pre-set map that they feel is enough for the job.
Secondly the intercooler may have some effect on the airflow if it's that size! You would be better off with a compact unit slung to the side of the motor. demon tweeks stock a universal intercooler which should do the job Surprised .

Changing the subject, Bruce flew though the MOTwith no advisories what so ever, total bill with the service 122.00. Already for 4 weeks time....then off ski to Narbonne afro
