PostSubject: P1220   Fri Mar 19, 2010 4:46 pm

Hello all, I am new here so if i am doing something wrong pls. help me.
I have a 2002 Grand cabin G 3000cc KZ1 engine. recently, my check engine light has been showing up, usually when the engine is at low revs (-1000 rpm). when this happens, the engine also makes a kind of knocking sound. if i rev a little, the noise goes away and the light goes out. the diagnostic reading says "timer circuit malfunction P1220". Any ideas?
Thanks

I get it once in a blue moon for about 30 seconds, my theory is bad quality fuel and the engine goes into limp home mode.

Sounds interesting. I live in the caribbean and there r many complaints of poor fuel quality. is there an additive that can enhance it?

sounds like its struggling to run and the knocking sounds like pre ignition.. bad fuel would do this, put some decent stuff in and give it a good blast, if this doesn;t help then start thinking about sensors....

No work was done on the vehicle. On the island there is only one grade of petrol. I always use Esso as it gives better mileage with my gasoline vehicle. I will switch to
shell for a while n see how it goes.

Another thing i've noticed is, when i am idling and running a/c, the revs hardly increase when the compressor cuts in and the engine labors until it cuts out again.

I know it is a bit soon, but after 3 days of using another brand/quality fuel, i've had no occurances of my former problem; (knock wood) I will continue to monitor through a few tank refills and see.

Thanks

Good, if you think that there is water in the fuel you can add a little bit of metholated spirits to it and that helps to counteract the water.
