| Hi everyone,
I'm new on this forum and I'm coming with all my issue! hehe But first, I'm just impressed that such a model could exist! Coming from europe, the van are usually pretty expensive and basic without any funky equipment... Just bought my SC LH107 year 92 3 months ago and I love it! 4 wheel drive, sun roof,... you know all about that! Compare to some SC which are really nice looking for the town, I will focussed more on making it like a beast for off roading! Western Australia is such a big playground! For that a few questions:
- Went driving on the beach a few times.... great! but get bugged a few times coz the clearance is not that big. To increase it, some guys are talking about spacer... any idea?? or also change the wheels for bigger one?? anyone tried??
- Also my van is kind of slow. The gear box is really short (great for 4 wheel driving) but reaches 90km/h at 3200 rpm. At 100km/h, the engine is screaming. My wheel are too small?? they are 205/70R15...is it ok? Was thinking to go for bigger one to go faster. The theory is right but is it good for the engine??
- The open door red light on the dash board is always on. I figured out that it's coming from the light on the roof at the back. The light also doesn't switch on when the sliding door is opened. Do you know why??
- For the curtains, I got two rails for each window. 2 at the top and 2 below. Any idea why?? 2 curtains maybe?
- the switches to open and close the curtains are not really working. The leader one in the rail is really week and doesn t seem to be stuck. My feeling is taht it's coming from the motor. any advice to clean then of to check that it's not an electrical issue??
I know my questions are a bit messy but a few advice would be much appreciated. cheers |

| OK wheels are stock. Does O/D engage (light on the dash OFF)? way down on top speed whatever engine you have.
Not sure about chaging ride height or wheel size.
If tailgate light on then tailgate is not shut enough, check strike plate. Oh and by leaving the light on or even just the dash indicator the battery will drain if unused over a few days.
Curtains and would you beleive nets!
Rails are just a plastic sheet with copper strips stuck on it so be careful and use a gentle cleaner or even lemon juice, and slide the ceramic bits up and down. If they don't slide or are very stiff suspect that the strip has degraded and or the pickups are broken/bent out of shape. |

| Welcome mlk22, Yes the SC has it all over the Euro junk! So you like to get off the smooth stuff ay! Me too!! So yeah that was one of the first things i noticed was the lack of ground clearance especially at the front About the only thing you can do is wind up the front torsion bars and put some slightly bigger tyres on and that will give you about 3 inches more hight, you will then have to install taller springs at the back to level her up. I started with bigger tyres first, 225/70/15 is as big as you can go with out modifying the front wheel arch's and stuffing up your gearing. So I'd prob go along with Clive and say check O/D button on or off? At 100k/h it should be cruising easy at about 2500rpm. And yes agree with Clive with the rest of you troubles, curtain's lots of gentle cleaning with soft rag, i used metho first to wipe then sprayed contact cleaner at high pressure to blow and crud remaining then just a real light pray of silicon solvent then wipe away and good as new! Hay good to see another not afraid to get it dirty! Steve. |

| Oh thank you very much guys!! Really good forum! Ok so there is something wrong with the speed, good to know. The thing is I don't have any O/D button! There is thus no lights on the dashboard. First it s a manual transmission and the only control I got is 4x4 on and onoff. Mine is a 1992 model and maybe too old to have this...or not..not sure héhé. Yours seems to be a bit younger and maybe they improved them since. Or I'm missing something! For the clearance this is what I thought and as you say the best way is bigger tyres. Thanks for the other tips! For the curtains I will try to do what you told me, sounds good. Otherwise, I'm after some curtains for the windows. any other tips for that?? thinking to make them myself... possible but not really good fun! any other way? I would like to upload some pictures, coz it's so much easier to sort an issue if you can see it. What's the best way for that Thank you so much for your help! Coz even the garage struggle to give me some good advice! Bye kevin |

| Ok not too many manual SC around so not sure why it run's out of legs at that speed? Maybe it requires the larger tyres for your model? Somebody on here might know? For uploading pic's just click on the preview box then it will show more options above, then click on the Host an image box and you can upload from there. Look forward to seeing your beast. |
