PostSubject: Our 'classic' 1987 4wd Lwb 2.4 diesel hiace workhorse...   Sun Oct 24, 2010 12:00 am

Our lovely van- some of you may have seen it posted elsewhere. Not many forums catering for hiaces! This one seems to have the most traffic?

I no its not a 'super custom' like most on here- but it was originally a posh version in its day- once a minibus in japan before being imported to NZ I think- it had heating and aircon separate to the back section.

Our heating source when camping...

Spares van recently bought and stripped- I will post up details later in the grease monkey section as it might have useful info fro anyone contemplating engine removal. We swapped the engine out of the green one as it had been fully recondintioned- the original engine we removed was burning 750mls of oil per 200 miles! But still went ok.

There does not seem to be many of these older 4wd hiaces left- hence us snapping up the green one and stripping it.
We love it- so very useful - heaps of room for camping, lugging sheets of ply and other building materials. Plus so far it has been a bloody capable off roader. Will be better now that it has new offroad shoes. We will lift it higher in the future too. And it might be slow- only a 2.4. But we dont care. Its very very cheap to run though!
Cheers
alex

So did you just turn the speakers up and blow the bits off?

Don't think I have ever seen one in the UK

Yeah- the speakers certainly blew some cobwebs out. unfortunately they wouldn't blow away all the built up oil and dirt.

Whilst living in blighty I never saw many older hiaces let alone 4wd ones either.
