PostSubject: My foot is getting wet!    Sun Nov 14, 2010 10:44 pm

Gah, just got back from dropping the kids off at school & its raining. I noticed my foot was getting wet on the way back home. Only a little drip now & then but where would it be coming from? Its my foot over the accelerator.
I had a look when I got home but I will have to take a torch down as all I could see was a heap of wiring. Which is just great if water is leaking into there with all that wire!
I also noticed the black rubber bit along the windscreen on teh same side (ont he outside) is a little lifted.. could it be dribbling in from there?

Any other spots I should look?

Are you sure its water?

I had it on my left foot a year or so back.....it was gearbox oil being sucked up the speedo cable (ruined my shoe)...seal in small trachoid pump on side of gearbox gone...solution?.... new trachoid pump.

If it is water....then probably from the window washer pipes that run behind the dash...or maybe the seal of the window washers coming through the body.
The screen is bonded in apparently so should'nt leak.

There is also brake fluid resevoir and master cylinder back there

Lying under the dashboard with some tissue and a torch willl help to see....dabbing around with tissues helps to track where the wet is coming from.

Has anyone had the headlights out? the foam sponge gasket could be misplaced. Also check it isn't antifreeze - heater matrix leak Sad

Yeah I definitely from the rain/water. I *think* it may becoming from the headlight too. Looking at the seal around the head light it looks a bit dodgy. How do I pull the headligh out to see?

Open the doors and there's a cross head screw securing the indicator unit to the front. Then (carefully) prise the grille off after after removing the (seized) screws around the headlight.
Once the grille's out, easier said than done, 3 bolts secure the headlight to the body

Just did it, Didn't need to take the grill off. Basically, toke that screw at the side off near the door to remove that little panel, Then 2 bigscrews under that & the head light just pos out.
I think I may have found my problem. The seal around that light is pretty bad but inside the car up above my foot there wasa heap of wires that come out from what could be the headlight & the seal around those had popped out. So I fixed that put the headlight back in & now I just have to wait for some rain to see Smile Thanks for teh help guys. See this non car person Mum of 4 can do anything Very Happy

Good stuff - maybe yours is the flat fronted type - the rounder nose (as my pic) is a bugger to get the grille off

Why did I not take proper note of this & look further! It is the seal of the wipers

Had thesame problem last winter. Found it to be the window seal. Had to remove the plastic trim in order to get the sealant in. Used high quality plumbers sealant. (for snagging jobs and costs 10.00 sticks to wet surfaces too and once on your paws its difficult to remove...) Water was actually coming in at drivers side bottom elbow, its a short plastic piece. Problem in winter was enhanced as with the heating on the windows misted up, not good. \hope this is of help as otherwise its a new rubber seal and that's a big job and only for professionals as the window has to come out. Apply the special sealant then pray for rain. Good luck.
