| I think its time you found another mechanic .
The 1 Kz-te 3litre Turbo diesel in the hiace is one of the best Diesels ever made .
Very smooth , Qiuet , reliable and heaps of power .
I've had mine for 100'000 ks and its still going as new . The car now has 260'000 ks on it .
All I've done is a timing belt and ordinary services in that time . |

| Agree! IT"S THE DUCKS GUTS! Have had no problem with mine, has done 160K. All i do is change oil and filter every 5K and timing belt every 100K. Not as fuel efficient as the new common rail diesels but so very reliable! 1KZ-TE is legendary! |

| Best diesel engine ever !!! 1KZ-TE has the reputation of being bullet proof , all they want is oil & filter every 5000 K's and they will love you and work hard for you . Maybe your mechanic has had problems with Nissan patrol 3lt turbo diesels cracking pistons at 120,000 k's and he thinks all diesels are no good. |

| I personally think that oil change at 5K a bit excessive. We ran trucks for many years and 10k Miles or once a month was the norm.( Tho I do this little one every 10 thou K) Just use good oil and make sure you change the filter each time cause if you don't you are wasting your time with all the dirty oil left in filter. Bad enuff with whats left in galleries As for the 1KTZ-TE we have only had this one for only a couple of years but it's been great. |

| Agree with all above comments, best diesel ever, mine never smokes, runs quiet (go have a listen to a new hiace with a diesel, sounds like an old tracktor) |

| Agree nothing wrong with turbo Diesels.
As for the oil change it is a Toyota servicing recommendation, every 5000 Kms. |

I thought the new 3L engine was the same block as the 1KZ but using D4D direct injection common rail?? I have a mate with the new Hi-lux and it seems to be very similar in noise to mine but has heaps more grunt and way better on fuel.
I had a test drive of the new Mitsubishi-Triton ute the other day and WOW! That has even more grunt! Amazing how you can get 400Nm out of a little 2.5 diesel. |

Things have moved on a bit in the oil technology in the last 16 years Clive - 5000 miles would still be ok for our ol' trucks |
