PostSubject: Routine servicing   Wed Feb 29, 2012 9:43 pm

Hi,
I saw in the useful pages from the manuals download a section on recommended tasks at 12 months and 24 months but what are the standard checks & intervals, please?

My Hiace is an :LH129- a 2.8l n/a (ie not Turbo) "3L" engine. Should there be an oil & filter change every 6 months? 3 months? I'm assuming that a 3-month interval would be 3months/5000Km/3000miles, 6-month would be 6mo/10000K/6000miles and 12, 12mo/20K,12000...?

How often should brake fluid, power steering oil, ATF etc be changed?

Thanks for any advice!

Cheers,
W.

Hi,
Aha! Found this post:

http://hiace-super-custom.free-boards.net/t562-routine-servicing-3l-diesel-engine-2779cc

Which pretty much covers it. Thanks very much to the OP!

One more, though...How much oil in a 2.8? :-)

Cheers,
W.

Oil every 5000Ks, filter every other change. regardless of which oil you use as these are old technology engines not like the nwer super clean ones that can go for years on the same oil.

My 3 litre took over 6 litres of oil with a filter change.

ATF once it changes from red - note you will only be able to drain a little from the sump at a time. I tend to do this at weekly intervals until I use the new supply up. You can get it changed by a machine much the same as a human dialysis, but this is very expensive and unless you have real problems not worth it in my opinion.
The reason you can only drain a little is that the box hold a fair amount behind valves and the torque converter hold a few litres all of which don't drain down.

Brake fluid every two years or so.

Power steering fluid never had to do it, that often!

My 2.8 takes around 5.6 ltr on each oil and filter change....I almost fill the oil filter before screwing on to speed up the initial oil circulation
