Another cause of vibration I had was a tyre going out of round. Your symptoms don't sound like that though.

I don't think so either. But it makes me think of another thing, maybe the alignment is off by miles and you feel resistance because of that? If both wheels are pushing inward for example?
But probably you would then have all sorts of other issues. (uneven worn tyres, and likely the car pulling to the left or right)

Just a random guess, but the driveshafts sounds more likely at this stage.
