So, which state and who? What about special conditions or exclusions etc?

I got ours with "Just Cars" in NSW at what seemed like competitive rates and no extra "grey import excess". No free windscreen cover included though.

The major mainstream companies won't touch it. Eg, AAMI, NRMA, GIO etc.

Incidentaly, the SC was cheaper to insure than a Delica cheers .

Excess is $600 and yearly premium is $800 and a bit. Forgot exactly how much and can't find it right now.

I think the pound is like 2.5 x more valuable than our dollar, roughly.

I tried Shannons, twice, but both times refused. I understand their policy on only insuring "car enthusiasts", but franky... the people I talked to were just pricks.

I've insured with Just Car - $625 (just got a call, they misquoted and charged me. $108 refund, so $517) premium, $400 excess. Just Car is underwritten by the same company as AAMI, and I was with AAMI for the last 6 years and loved them.

I am insured with Shannons at $623 per year full comprehensive valued at $12,000 with $500 excess also includes insurance of $5,000 for tools stored in garage. Just cars sounds pretty good though, might have to give them a call!

I just noticed that I didn't put in the value it was $14,000. We were like Talman, we have been with AAMI (The pensioner section AAPIA) for many years and are very happy with them. Shannons looks similar in pricing tho.

Whenever I've rung Shannons, they want the vehicle in the garage. How can you gaurantee that? Especially a tall van.....

I've given up on Shannons.

My other vehicle is with AAMI. Have been with AAMI for years. 2 claims, both dealt with in a good manner.

Just Cars asked for an imobiliser for the SC, but that was fine as the dealer had one fitted for us knowing this was desired by insurance agents in Aus.

HI there,

It seems a bit high. Here in NZ to renew my Full insurance this month on Hiace SC 2.4EFI $341 , with $250 excess. Not sure if being a 2.4 makes it a lot cheaper?

Cheers

Martin.

Good point don't know whether the petrol is cheaper, our old Ace was 2.4 but just with our regular APIA lot.

Hi, it would appear that the insurance prices in Australia are all over the place, i believe if we were to approach a company like shannons as members of this forum we would get a better price and better service. I have been involved with a car club on the mornington peninsula and we did that and got a really good discount.

United We Stand....if you get my drift. I currently insure with shannons and have done for many years and would be happy to negotiate a deal for us SC owners. I also work in the automotive industry so that may help.... let me know what u think

Cheers

Hey Everyone,

My Wife & I just bought a '95 SC Limited, 3.0L Turbo Diesel Auto 4WD.
Picked it up for $11,990.00 ($14,990.00 without trade in)
I rang JUST CAR INSURANCE to get a covernote to drive it back to Newcastle.
I got a Quote for $878.00 with $600 XS.
Might give Shannons a call, they look like a better deal with the Tools in Storage included.

Cheers
Geoff

Hi everyone. I have recently got a Toyota Hiace 2011 LWB petrol manual. I have taken insurance from budget direct but have been quoted $1800 annually. This is bcos my car has been considered modified.

I have glass panels on one side of the doors. They are fixed panel and don't open like windows. Should this be considered as a modification and is there a cheaper insurance company out there.

I am with GIO and pay around $1100 per annum but mine is insured for business which is usually more. I found Just cars to be about the most expensive. GIO are aware mine runs 18" mags but have advised it is not use as a passenger transporter.

Yeah mines being insured for business use as well. Trades. Maximum no claim discount. No claims in 6 years and no demerit points. Not sure why they still charging me so much. I'll be the only one driving this car as Mrs doesn't drive manual and it's restricted to over 30.

Thanks for the information all. I've just bought a Hiace Super Custom 3ltr turbo diesel Very Happy so i tried the normal route of aami & racv for insurance and they couldn't find the van on their system so after a search found here and tried:
Shannons - $810
Just cars - $1035 + had to fit an immobiliser

So as I' a member of CMCA (camper & caravan assoc) I tried their insurance company Ken Tame who I was previously with on my old Coaster (I did try them first but had a confusing call as the new van wasn't a true camper so didn't get a quote), but fortunately tried again as they quote $400 cheers $300 excess BUT the replacement value is at market rate not agreed amount.
