PostSubject: help required   Thu Jan 05, 2017 10:40 pm

I'm in the process of doing a little work on my camper, its a little low atm so raising using the torsion bar at the front & now moved onto the rear uprating the shocks & springs, I've run into an issue in that I can get a shock no problem, was thinking of using the koni heavy track, but as for spring I've hit an issue, I want to raise the rear around one and a half inches, so need to know the dimensions of the original rear coil springs to ascertain whether they are a lowering spring that's fitted or original to let me know where to go from here, either replacing with standard or having a specialist spring made to suit my purposes.I basically need to know the dimensions of the rear coil spring on the slwb RZH-132 variant & I'm finding this info very difficult to come about the original part number is 48231-26100,can anyone help???

Did you get anywhere with this?
Many people seem to want to raise or lower the back coil springs - I need to raise mine around 10mm or so - although I may just cut a rubber pad and fit it into the spring's end holder (I'm assuming there's a flat captive area somewhere in the stack!).

I can buy rubber in any thickness and size on eBay (bought some 20mm x 100mm x 100mm for a project the other day - it's good stuff).
When I get to look I'll see if I can measure the diameter of the sprint and coil thickness (although mine are lowered springs already) because I suspect there's a common van spring out there that would fit - from a similar weight van like a VW etc.

Yeah there are a number of options you can go down, springwise, kingsprings in newzealand do raising/lowering springs for all models of hiace & deliver to the uk, I've actually had mine custom made ,extended by 22MM & the load capacity seriously uprated, these have been produced by a company in Sheffield www.springcoil.co.uk at a cost of 150, there are a number of spring makers in Sheffield will be able to help you with this. Strutwise only really one option I could find for an upgrade which is the koni heavy tracks, available from larkspeed etc. Believe the t4 shocks fit some variants of the hiace too although I cant confirm which ones etc, I know they don't fit mine though!.Graystone do assister springs for about 250 too which I imagine will also do the job, it just wasn't my preffered option, they also do donuts to fit between the coils but again not my preferred option as this will strain the coil as it affects the spring rate http://www.springassisters.co.uk/menu.htm .

5 weeks is a while and I've have to be certain the size was right Wink.
I think I'll be OK with spacers though - the manual form of a coil-over LOL.

I wonder if RAV4 springs might fit the Hiace rear, some info here:
http://www.rav4world.com/forums/99-4-3-mechanical/89814-rear-coil-spring-info.html

The Hiace has about 850kg on the back, 425kg per wheel of which most of that is held by the spring.
I could really use a corner weight set but I don't think the wife will let me buy one of those but I may be able to confirm front and rear axle loads on a public weighbridge.

Your coils should as standard be 310mm long x 125mm diameter with a 16.2mm coil thickness if they're the same as mine, my new ones are 334mm long x 125mm diameter with a 24mm coil thickness, coil increase on the inside of the coil :-),if that helps!!

Wow, didn't realise you had the sizes, brilliant!

I'll measure my coil thickness later.

The RAV4 rear springs (according to the ilnk I posted) are:

#48231-0R050
wire diameter: 16.3 mm
overall diam: 128 mm
height: 307 mm

So essentially the Hiace rear springs seems to be identical to RAV4 rear springs.
That gives us a good cheap plentiful source to mess about with Very Happy.

Your new ones seem much stiffer at 24mm to support the extra camper weight, a good choice I suspect.

Hi countzero 1978 - what are you doing with your old springs as I'm wanting to drop my van quite a bit, will have the front torsion adjusters with very little thread left when I'm done
