PostSubject: Gross vehicle weight - any ideas?   Thu Mar 30, 2017 1:01 pm

Afternoon All,

Any idea what the Gross vehicle weight of my SuperGL would be? It's the 2.8litre diesel.

A local bridge only allows up to 3T and they're doing checks. Can't find anything on the plate, and also don't know what my towing limit is either.

Answers on a postcard to this address...

Rich

My SC is specified as 1050kg front, 850kg rear.

Gross weight is the total maximum allowed weight right? That is just under the 3 ton.
It should be on the plate next to the engine, above the left front wheel when you lift the bonnet.

Mine says 2900kg and 4900kg with trailer.

But yours will be less than 3 ton anyway right so what is the issue with the bridge?
If you have 4wd and camper interior it is probably something like 2200kg without people?

I think you have almost the same car as me, just a slightly bigger engine (but same family)
So you must have a LH119 chassis.

This is an example of the plate, and I would really think you would have the same maximum allowed weight of 2900kg. Numbers 1 (front) and 2 (rear) show the maximum allowed weight per axle.
The 4900kg is the towing weight, but I guess this may depend on the fitted pulling hitch frame?

I think your model code will be very similar, just that it will say LH119R or something.

GVW isn't listed on the plate (and therefore V5 documents) for Japanese imports.  Obviously not something considered important in Japan!

Marlow bridge?  I saw it on the news the other day.  Used to cross that on the way to the Scout centre (Longridge?) just down from there when I was a kid Smile

Ok. So if it is not on the plate, then I think it is safe to take this as a guidance.

Anyhow, I think it should be clear that the car does not weigh more than 3 ton so it can go onto the bridge?

Thanks everyone. I'll have another look at the plate and see if it does have the weights written on it and I just wasn't paying attention. Glad I'm less than 3 tonnes, although going up hills I'd swear I was heavier!

Yes, Marlow bridge was on the news as a 37 tonne lorry decided to go over it (despite pinch points deliberately set up to stop it) and it was shut for a couple of months as a result. They're cracking down on people going over the bridge so modern range rovers are officially too heavy to go over. They're also too wide to go through the pinch points so it's slow going if you get stuck behind one Surprised/

Longridge canoe centre is still there. I used to go there as a lad too.

Well, it could still be that you have overloaded the vehicle Razz

That's true. The cupboards and leisure battery all add to the weight. I need to get along to a weigh bridge at some point.

But that would be quite noticable. The van still drives okay at 3 tons, but will feel very sluggish.
At least that's what we had when I completely loaded the van once, completely full.
