PostSubject: Hi from Bundy Australia   Mon Jul 10, 2017 12:26 pm

Hi everyone
Just wanted to introduce myself Smile
bought a 93 hiace 4x4 with high/low range and auto transmission,
the engine has already been upgraded to a 5L by the previous owner.
I've been using the forum search to find what upgrades are possible and
have ordered a snorkel with the part numbers  posted on here Very Happy
Also looking at some BFG 215/75/15 tyres on my standard rims,
Is this the biggest tyre  without modification or lift ?
Are there any australian bullbars available?
Any other modifications recommended to improve our van?
thanks
little turtle

I fit 225/75R16 but that was with quite some rework on the front wheel arch etc. Please use the search button, I think there has been a discussion about max tyre size before.
I also have the snorkel, although it adds more noise.

Bullbar sounds nice, but it is typically mounted in a way that the approach angle is less. People use bullbars ment for other cars.
I just had my front bumper trimmed, because it would drag and break all the time during offroading, especially in sand.

You can turn up the torsion bars and add a leaf to the rear to lift the van. While using the stock shock absorbers, they are long enough.

Just check the coolant system, if all looks old and necessary to replace, then also flush the system thoroughly.

Check if you have an LSD in the rear axle, so you know to use the right oil type.

I have high-low range and parttime 4x4 (with button on dashboard).
I think they built them side by side for a long period.

The high-low and parttime 4x4 is all handled in the transfer case, and according to the parts database they stopped making that transfer case in 1998.

Hi!

A 5 litre? What type of engine is that?

No, the 5L is the bigger brother of the 2L (2.4 litre) and 3L (2.8 litre), and has 3.0 litre displacement.
Other than that very similar, so probably relatively easy conversion.

I had no luck finding a bullbar to fit mine. Although many are manufactured for various other Hiace models none would fit due to the airconditioning location. One company (ARB?) said it could be done but would require an independent engineer to design alternative mounts.

Hi Andy here

Just trying to make some contacts - our Toyota Super Custom in 2001 model Full time 4wd

Did you have any luck with finding a Bull Bar in Australia?

We particularly need a bull bar Tow Bar and driver front indicator/light box replacement. Would appreciate any ideas on where to find in Aus.

cheers
Andy
