PostSubject: Ecu has carked it. 95 SC   Mon Jun 04, 2018 1:29 am

Hey guys, new member and owner here. So after plenty of frustration and research it seems the ecu is a common problem amongst owners. Mine has seemingly just kicked the bucket. My SC is thankfully parked up at the auto electricians, I've spoken with specialised automotive electronics from seven hills where I'll be sending mine for repair. Just wondering, if they cannot repair it what price would I be looking at for a second hand one? I've had a look inside the ecu and it looks immaculate can't see any leaky capacitors as such so hoping a simple repair is all that is needed.
Thanks in advance!

Hi!

At least with Sydney I can see you in Australia, often people put their village name and then ask where to buy stuff, forgetting this is an international forum LOL.

It is said that 1996- on ECUs are OK and you are close to that, so if you can't see any issue any damage should be very minor so I'd wait and see before worrying too much.

If it was capacitors usually there is a period of the symptoms gradually getting worse and worse, especially when the battery is low - if your fault was a sudden one it might not be the ECU.

Which engine do you have?

Thought I had ECU cap problems showed exactly same problems and like you had a look at them they were just like new turned out to be dead cell in battery, when starting there is a massive voltage drop due to heater plugs coming on and of course starter the caps cannot cope if battery is faulty try a new battery first (a cheap fix for me).

Cheers for the feedback guys, given me a bit extra to consider without jumping straight to conclusions based on other people's postings. It's at the auto electricians still, perhaps I should ask him to check with a new battery in? It's been really intermittent but auto elec told me it started cutting out once it got warm, then wasn't starting at all. I'll call him tomorrow with the suggestion about the battery.
