Hi Fellas,
cant remember what size but about a year ago I swaped wheels from a customers old 4 runner , they were about 1.5 " bigger diameter and only just fitted in the wheel arch.
took beast for a run out to Kurnell and it drove ok but i noticed that the toque converter locked up at about 90 kms per hour and normally they lock at around 80 me thinks.
Seemed a bit tall in the gearing to me but at a pinch you could probably live with it.
maybe 2 sets of wheels for city and bush.
I am still not game enough to take it out to boat harbour 4x4 park in the sand, could be very embarrasing , ok if I had a mate with a snatch strap.

Check out my big box in the gallery , I made it so the seats go down level so you can sleep in the back overnight incase you get stuck on the beach. Sad

Hi Dill, Being you are a mechanic ,what do you reckon about fitting an intercooler in the front above the radiator's and A/C condenser.
do you think the long pipe run would cause too much turbo lag.

I had a 2003 prado with the 1KZ-TE auto trans and it was down right dangerous if you put you foot down in a panic situation--- big flat spot and no go at all untill you backed off the pedle.
Hiace does not have this problem and would blow the pants off my old prado.

cheers

Hi 4WDer's, my 2WD got bogged in a muddy driveway the other day! I guess my low profiles just don't cut it off road, was a bit embarasing askin for a push! On the flip side, how many of you can get into shopping centre car parks?

Went to Lithgow yesterday for some 4wd training, so much fun lol

I did get a few scratches on the bumper when the car slipped out of reverse. at the wrong time at the back of the pit.

Talking of the Pit (i assume we all know the pit??)(For those who dont it a slate wall that has 5 different tracks to get up, from basic lvl 2 to extreme lvl 6)

Well it went up and down the 2 tracks on the left without a problem lvl 2 and 3
and it also went up the one on the right as well lvl 4

they did take some pics and i really want to see them too lol so when i get them ill post them up

It went well in the water better then i thought it would, it never got stuck but it did hit a few rocks underneath but im working on fixing that so it dont matter lol

I couldn't belive how well it went
Im so impressed with it, it may not be the highest 4wd but as long as i put the wheels in the right place it can go to a lot of places i never thought it would go and to some places that other 4wd can't

here are some pics

this one hurt lol

how cool am i lol one hand one the wheel and one on the window sill lol

Van needed to go potty lol

Hay great pic's, love the rear wheel off the ground! bounce
Wish mine had low range, i find going down much harder than climbing... with out low range mine gets very sketchy on steep descents.

Hay had mine on Stockton beach during the holidays, will post up some pic's.

No problems with the snow at the end of last year - loads of fun and better in high range - less torque! Very Happy

I have in NZ a 4WD 1992 Hiace camper with manually lockable front hubs. Currently it has standard 195R15 tyres. I would like to get some more clearance without changing the 15 inch rims. Can anyone recommend a bigger tire size (or even brand of tyres) that would still fit without a need for other modifications?

Thanks for your reply. Looks like the new model is now called ATR:

I'll try to find 235/75R15s.

235 is to wide

i have 225/70/16 i think lol

they just fit and i had to bash the inner guard a bit but they clear everywhere else

my torsion bars are wound up 3/4 to give me the clearance i need and that still isn't enough

Yes, I found somewhere on the net that 235/75R15 are too big for the front. Turning angle would need to be narrowed and suspension lifted. I'll try to find something a bit smaller, say 215/75/R15.

225/70/15 or 215/75/15 will be fine with out any mod's. I have 225/70/15 but was thinking of going for some BFG's in 215/75/15 because they have thicker side walls. Shocked

hey,
because of the (off) road we use here (70/ 40) , we need to find a 215/70r15 AT , I had just tried today the BFG  ko2 215/75r15, they look great , turn without touch but I have just 1 cm of space between the tire and the body, the same with a 225/70r15 , the space must be more important no? so  is there a AT tire wich exist in this size: 215/70r15 ? and  what  brand   would you recommend ? thank you for your time Cool
