The timing belt change light comes on every time you roll 100,000 kilometres regardless of when the belt is actually changed. To reset it, remove the lower right section of the dashboard by removing the 2 screws that hold on the fuel filler cover lever.

There is a screw in the little white piece of plastic that is just left of the key lock for the ignition (where the screwdriver is pointing):

Remove the screw and move it to the other hole. This toggles the timing light between being on for odd or even 100,000s of kms. When your light comes on again after another 100,000 km move it back to the original position.

Now if only changing the timing belt itself were that easy... More pictures to follow.

So in theory if your light is not on and you move the screw it should then be on?

Thanks for that.

On the 1KZ-TE engine the timing belt is that easy!

Fantastic...I was hoping someone would post this info!
I thought you had to take out the whole dash but this looks relatively painless.

How often do you need change the timing belt in the 2.8ltr (1993). Was reading in the manual and it reckoned every 10,000 miles, which ead liek a misprint to me surely?

Toldsimply - the timing belt light on my 1991 2.8l came on at 90,000km. The vehicle was imported used from Japan so no knowing how genuine those kms are.

Just to say i have just reset the light on my mothers 95 super long hi-top (its a base spec van) and the screw is in the back of the dash binnacle and clearly marked, my 94 custom looks the same, i think its only the sc's that you can reset with the clocks in place. it takes a bit longer but still relatively straight foward. wouldn't have had a clue how to reset it without looking on this forum, so thanks again to all those that post on here.

The KZH100 series Super custom (08/93 upto around the 99 era) are on the back of the dash cluster.

You need to remove the bottom panel as shown above, then remove the black surround that is around speedo cluster/airvents/radio/buttons, to do this part is very tricky (hidden screws up inside the air vents in the center of the dash) and time consuming, it normally requires the clock and extra buttons to be unplugged (be careful as the clock and the hazard lights are the same style plug on most vans).

Then the speedo comes out with 4 screws around it. Once out there are 3-4 plugs on the back of it which need to be unplugged and you will see the screw marked "timing belt" move the screw over one hole and reinstall all your dash in the opposite order to above.

Hope this helps someone down the line.
