PostSubject: Radio problems in Hi Ace 1989   Sat Aug 15, 2009 8:35 am

HI all,,,my first post also!Am wondering about differences [if any] between my 1989
Hi Ace sc.Ltd.wagon,with high roof and front-hinged roof section which rises to expose a dble bed in roof area,,[3 seperate padded sections].---and later models of this van ??My problem is also Radio related.
Fitted is a dble-size component [c.d/cassette/radio] with 6 speakers[2 front,,4 in rear]
Kenwood model DX 33 with a k/woodKac 721 amplifier.
A cassette was left playing overnite so battery was flat next morning and since then the
whole system is dead as a dodo!I have the glove-box removed and trying to remove the central bottom dash section to,hopefully access/remove the component! All fuses are intact but don't know if the dx33 is fused internally.?My gut tell me I need a new unit, tho'I'm hoping this is not the case.Any advices or suggestions would be most appreciated.and would be happy to buy a user manual for the dx33,if anyone has one for sale.scanno2.

How do.. good to see you have got access now Smile

I would of thought the stereo is fused as you suggested. Somtimes with a removable fuse in the rear cof the case rather than in-line.

--Hello admin,,,yes,,,happy now,,,was beginning to think i was losing the plot,,,this site is invaluable to we "import" owners,,,,,,hoping for some assist in removing the bottom dash-panel as it appears that this would be the only means of xtracting this DX 33 unit---it's big,,,approx 8"x7",,,depth unknown!!

--G'day ruffnut,,,good to hear from you,and thanks.
unit's in the usual place,I'd say,,,beneath the heater/blower levers and close to the dash board on its l.h.side. C.D. slot at top, then screen and cassette
slot beneath that.Amp. is a seperate unit [kenwood] and lies under the drivers seat.Prior to the flat battery it was working perfectly,[caused comment!]'G/kids had left a cassette in unwittingly, and it appears that when the power eventually ceased the unit 'spat' the cassette out,,,,a sort of "dying
act of revenge",,,so to-----total mystery to me,but am confident there's someone amongst the members here who has the know how,,,,scanno2.

to get the dash out you have three screws 2 in guage area and2 in the vents above heater controls after they are undone the dash should pull out gently the radio then is easy to remove for repair hope this helps.
cheers

Hi Dave,,,good-one! Have got the unit out and replaced 1 of the 2 fuses!
1x3amps.+ 1x5amps....the latter was faulty. Now all I need is one of these "patch-cable" gizmos,to attach before re-installing it,,,so that I can pick-up Ozzie radio signals/stns.[unable to do so since I bought the van---just C.D's and cassettes.Imagine Dick Smiths will sell these gizmos??
Many thanks for your guideance,,,much appreciated. John.
