| My original japanese cd/md player has been cactus for a while and I want to replace it with a DVD system, with an external screen in between the rear air con vents in the roof, see image. I have seen a few vans with this setup, but I was wondering if anyone has done this retro fit themselves or has any advice to offer, particularly about mounting the screen. Cheers |

| Great idea. Keep us posted if you have a go. I would think a flat 10inch screen on a vesa mount would fit fairly flush without cutting a big hole |

My SC has a storage hole with a lid there so I doubt there is anything there in the one pictured above. My storage thingo is 130mm (H) x 150mm (w) x 150mm (l) |

| I have a No Name brand DVD player + roof mounted screen I've never used. Anyone interested for $75?, cost about $400 new, has not been used still in the box. Pick up in Sydney only. Hey Admin, how about a for sale section? |

| $75 ! yeah
I'm moving down to sydney at the end of the month. Which is what prompted my interest in installing a dvd setup, to keep the kids occupied on the trip down. But I'm quickly running out of time to install it before then. |

| I Did It ! After about a month of contemplation and 5 months of procrastination I've finally put my screen in the back for the littlies. I ended up using a 10.2 inch digital photo frame which plays divX movies from a USB stick, since most of my movie collection is digitized anyway. I mounted it using a couple of small speaker mounting brackets coupled with some picture frame hooks, ballcock washers and a cable tie or two, which turned out to be perfect. I only made four tiny holes for the screws and managed to squeeze a backing plate through the hole where the air con is, to strengthen it up a bit. I installed a new stereo at the same time and have got the audio output from the screen running back to the stereo. Ended up setting me back less than AU$350 including the new stereo, picture frame, 12v power adapter, mounting brackets, all the cabling and a "pocket" to fill the hole left after replacing a double DIN unit with a single. Woo - Hoo ! |
