 | Subject: Turbo Timer - Required? Sun Sep 27, 2009 8:20 pm | |
| Hey there team,
Just wanting to know if anyone has a turbo timer in their SC?
Being a turbo vehicle, i would think that this maybe required but on the other hand, its not a petrol high performing vehicle therefor the necessity of a timer to cool down the engine will not be needed?
any ideas on the matter? |

| Temp of the Diesel turbo does not get hot enough but it is good to circulate the coolant for a minute after run, not needed on around town use. |

| regarding timer my owners manual says that you should allow the turbo to cool after a run at 100kph so a timer would be a good idea i will now look into it myself dave |

| got one on mine, but keeps going for 60 secs, which is really annoying after a 10 min drive at low speeds. I'm thinking of removing it and then just do it manually if its been on a long journey.

| The Turbo Timers can usually be linked to the alarm so it can still be running and alarmed and then shut down. |

| I fitted one to mine - its not to do with how hot it gets it's to allow the oil to circulate in the 1000,000+ rpm turbine. Its even more suitable to a non liquid cooled turbo
1 minute should be enough to allow the turbine to slow down before turning off |

| This will be one of the first items I fit to my 95 SCL. The main purpose for Turbo Timers is to allow the Turbo Charger to Spool Down before the Engine cuts off. This is so the Turbocharger can still get lubrication while it is spinning at very high speed to prevent premature failure. The other benefit of course is the time it allows to cool the Turbo down.
Cheers Geoff |

| Much less of a problem with water cooled turbos - has the 3.0 turbo got coolant running round it? |
